Blog assignment #6

This is furniture designed by architects, but for some reason my pictures would not upload so there is a url link for each of my pictures so hopefully the links work! :)

My first piece of furniture is called the tulip chair by architect Eero Saarinen in 1946. It is so famous, it is perhaps as well known as the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Saarinen was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was a Finnish American architect and product designer in the 20th century.

My second piece of furniture is called the Paimio armchair by Alvar Aalto, in 1931.
Aalto's intriguing arm chair can be found in numerous museums including the Museum of Modern Art.

Marland Mansion

Photobucket

The Marland Estate Mansion is in Ponca City, Oklahoma and is a national historical landmark. E.W. Marland was a very wealthy oilman, who wanted to live lavishly and entertain in style. Marland modeled his dream home after Davanzati Palace in Florence, Italy. Breathtakingly beautiful, this mansion denotes incredible attention to detail with carved wood, sculptured stone, wrought iron arched doorways, and hand-painted and gold-leaf ceilings. Master architect John Duncan Forsyth, along with artists, decorators, and sculptors of international reputation combined their talents to create this "Palace on the Prairie".

Architecture

PhotobucketThe Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Fimilia, also called the Sagrada Fimilia, is a massive Roman Catholic church under construction in Barcelona, Spain. Originally designed by Antoni Gaudi, who worked on the project for over 40 years, devoting the last 15 years of his life entirely to the endeavor, the project is scheduled to be completed in 2026.  This is one of my favorite buildings. I visited it last summer and being able to see it was the most amazing experiences in my life!!!
